“It was awesome,” Loachapoka head coach Terry Murph said.
“I have been at Loachapoka for 30 years and I believe that is the best comeback I have ever seen at Loachapoka. We lost some games where people came back on us, but we came back tonight-on defense and big shots.”
The Fighting Tigers took a 42-32 lead into the final period.
With 6:40 left in the game, TC Central looked as if they were getting to put the game away after Tervarus Garrett hit a pull up jumper off a Indian turnover to make it 48-34.
The Indians picked up their intensity in the final six minutes, which caused TC Central problems.
Chauncey Finley hit a layup off a TC Central turnover to cut the lead down to 48-35.
Jywon Moss scored four points in nine seconds to slash the lead down to 49-42.
Crystyle Stockdale increased TC Central’s lead to 52-42 on a 3-pointer with 3:47 remaining in the game.
But that was the last basket TC Central would get. Brantavious Bledsoe scored seven straight points off turnovers to cut the lead down to three, 52-49 with 2:22 left in the game.
After another empty possession for the Fighting Tigers, Finely nailed a 3-pointer from the left corner to tie the game at 52-52 with 2:12 left.
Finley put the Indians ahead 55-52 with 1:11 left.
Lamar Suttle made a free throw to cut the lead down to 55-53 with 1:06 remaining.
Wakeem Huguley was held scoreless thanks to the Fighting Tigers defense, but with the game on the line he showed up. Huguly drained a pair of free throws to make it 57-53.
Ryan Allen added a free throw to make it 58-53.
“The fourth quarter came and we were in high sprits,” TC Central head coach Damien Dorsey said. “They pressed us and started getting steals. They got the momentum. We were still in good shape. We talked about No. 3 and No.14. 14 hit a big three to tie it up, then he put another three to put them ahead. We didn’t find him in the corner and in the bottom of our zone after we talked about it all week. We just didn’t execute in the fourth quarter.”
TC Central led 16-13 at the end of the first quarter.
Suttle scored six points in the period, which included a layup off a pick and roll with Dewayne Wallace to cut the Indians lead to 13-12.
The Fighting Tigers ended the quarter on a 4-0 run. Garrett hit a back shot at the buzzer to put TC Central ahead 16-13.
The Fighting Tigers defense was the story of the second quarter. TC Central held Loachapoka to three points in the quarter. Cededrick Garrett scored five points in the quarter including a layup off a Wallace steal and assist to put TC ahead 23-15.
Frankie Pedroza hit a shot with a second left in the half to put TC Central ahead 27-16.
The Fighting Tigers have four seniors on this season’s team. Dorsey said he was proud of what his players were able to accomplish this season.
“I hate it for Ramone Russell, Chason Anderson, Julius Players, Frankie Pedroza,” Dorsey said. “They did a great job with leadership. They wanted it, they played their hearts out and I have nothing, but the up most respect for those guys. I hate that our season had to end this way on a night we were supposed to be celebrating at home.”
