“Everybody played together as a team,” Dorsey said. “That’s what we’ve been striving for all year and it finally happened tonight. Teamwork, and that’s what we’re trying to get to, take care of what we need to take care of as a team. They played together. They shared the ball and I’m proud of them.”
B.B. Comer jumped out to an early 4-0 lead against TC Central, but it was their only lead of the game. TC Central quickly regained their senses by going on an 11-0 run that was sparked by Crystyle Stockdale. The sophomore scored five points during the run. By the end of the first of the first quarter, Comer had trimmed the TC Central lead down to 13-7.
TC Central used the second quarter to build a significant lead. They started the quarter out on a 10-0 run. Once again, Stockdale had five points during the run. TC Central closed out the second quarter in the same fashion they opened: on another big run to pace their lead. They outscored Comer 15-2 to take a 42-18 lead into the half. This time, Francisco Pedroza was the primary scorer, as he sank two 3-point shots for six points.
“Defense set the tone early,” Stockdale said. “When we came out pressing, it set the tone early. Tervarus Garrett was a big help, Tyler Cross, our center, big help.”
After being outscored by Comer 14-7 to start the third quarter, TC Central used another big run to widen their double-digit lead. They closed out the third quarter on a 17-2 run. Tervarus Garrett led the team with led the team during the run with seven points while also contributing two rebounds and an assist. The third quarter ended with TC Central holding a 68-34 lead.
The fourth quarter was relatively listless as the two teams combined for a mere nine points. Even with TC Central trying to preserve a lead of more than thirty points, they still outscored Comer 7-2 in the fourth quarter. Stockdale was the high scorer in the fourth quarter, as he made an inside basket while getting fouled and he sank the free throw.
Stockdale finished as the game’s leading scorer with 19 total points, while Garrett and Pedroza were tied for second with 14 points.
“To tell the truth, there really wasn’t any personal success because we had a team effort,” Stockdale said. “By having a team effort, I ended up coming up with 19 points because if you don’t play team ball, it’s never a one-person show. It’s all about the teammates and we came out with the win, a big win. When we first played it was a tough game, but after playing all these big schools we realized we’re a little better than what we played. So, we came out, stepped up and we did a good job.”
Kendrick Kirksey paced Comer with 10 points while teammate Adonis Embery chipped in eight points.
