“Yesterday deputies in Sylacauga were notified that U.S. Marshals in the Cedar Creek community on General Jackson Memorial Drive attempted to serve a ‘failure to appear’ warrant,” said Chief Deputy Jimmy Kilgore.
“When they confronted the individual he barricaded himself in the residence with a rifle and refused to come out.”
The U.S. Marshals notified officials with the Talladega County Sheriff’s Department about the standoff around 8:30 a.m.; the standoff ended at 1:36 p.m.
“The deputies got there and were assisted by the Sheriff Emergency Response Team, and the Talladega County Violence and Drug Task Force,” Kilgore said.
“We continued to talk with the individual until he surrendered himself and was taken to Talladega County Jail without incident.”
Tyler was charged with resisting arrest in addition to his original charge of failure to appear in court that stemmed from a first degree sexual abuse charge out of Elmore County.
When asked if Tyler had any demands Kilgore said, “He just didn’t want to go back to jail and said he wasn’t coming out. But luckily we had our hostage negotiator down there.”
Kilgore said he was just happy no one got hurt.
Tyler is currently being held at the Talladega County Jail. His bond had not been posted as of Thursday morning
