“I regret to inform everyone that due to water quality at the park and the fact the city has closed the beach until the goose problem can be resolved, we are going to have to cancel the regatta,” said Matt Mitcham, president of the Pell City Civitan Club, which hosts the annual regatta.
The regatta had been set for Saturday at Lakeside Park.
Mayor Bill Hereford said the city chose to close the public beach at Lakeside Park due to the threat of E. coli to humans and animals at a public hearing last Thursday regarding problems with waterfowl.
Mitcham said the regatta will be rescheduled at a later date, but no date has been set.
