MONTGOMERY — Senior Jarrod Mims pitched a three-hit shutout to lead Coosa Valley Academy past Crenshaw Academy, 2-0 Tuesday in the first game of the AISA Class A championship baseball series at Patterson Field in Montgomery.

The Rebels got on the board in the top of the first inning.

John Bullen led the game off with a chopper over third base for a single. Bullen stole second base to get into scoring position. Hunter Roe’s sacrifice fly moved Bullen over to third base. Jared Mims’ RBI single up the middle scored Bullen to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead.

In the third inning Saxon Grimes hit a single to score Cody Wood to give the Rebels a 2-0 lead.

The Cougars tried to start a rally to open seventh inning. Pete King doubled to lead off, but Mims settled down to strike out the next batter and he got the next two batters to fly out to seal the victory.
