Jake 'The Snake' Roberts coming to Pell City
by Gary Hanner
“Maddog” Dan Sawyer is working hard to bring in some of the top entertainment names to Pell City.

Last year, Sawyer was instrumental in bringing Honey Boo Boo to one of his Global Championship Wrestling matches at the Civic Center in Pell City.

“Looks like Honey Boo Boo and her family are interested in coming back to Pell City this fall,” Sawyer said. “Myself and GCW champ Micah Taylor were on ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ just last week in the first episode of the new season.”

Sawyer is also in negotiations with cast members from the hit show Duck Dynasty.

“Details are still to come on that,” Sawyer said.

One former WWE legend that Sawyer has coming in this Saturday is Jake “the Snake” Roberts.

Roberts will be at the Civic Center to sign autographs at 7 p.m. before the wrestling card starts, and again at intermission.

“This is an exciting event for younger fans who may have never seen him before,” Sawyer said. “He has a new lease on life, and has lost 87 pounds to try and get back in good shape.”

As for the wrestling itself, there will seven huge matches Saturday with the main event having an odd tag team.

Sawyer and Taylor have been arch enemies for the past several years, but they will be tag team partners for the first time ever Saturday as they face a new tag team called The Squared Circle. Made up of Jake Coal and Jeremy Foster.

“I can put my differences with Taylor aside for one night to take on these two young punks who recently turned on me trying to make a name for themselves,” Sawyer said.

There will be three championship matches on the card including a ladies championship match.

Belltime is 7:30 p.m.
