PELL CITY – A Pell City woman remains in the St. Clair County Jail after she was arrested for murder.

Dannette Campbell Watkins, 41, was arrested after a grand jury indicted her for the murder of Cathy Harris, 39, of Pell City.

According to authorities, Watkins, who was driving a 2000 GMC Safari, struck the driver’s side door of the 2007 Ford Taurus Harris was driving the night of Dec. 16, 2012.

Harris was crossing U.S. 231 on 19th Street when Watkins allegedly failed to stop for the red traffic light and struck Harris’ vehicle.

Harris was transported to University Hospital in Birmingham where she was pronounced dead.

“Dannette Campbell Watkins, whose name to the Grand Jury is otherwise unknown, did recklessly engage in conduct, which manifested extreme indifference to human life and created a grave risk of death to a person other than the said Dannette Campbell Watkins, and did thereby cause the death of Cathy Harris….” the grand jury indictment states.

St. Clair County District Attorney Richard Minor said Watkins is expected to appear in court in August for her arraignment.

Watkins is currently being held at the St. Clair County Jail with a $100,000 bond.
