Both burglaries, occurring June 28 and Tuesday, are under investigation by the Talladega County Sheriff’s Department. The Talladega County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting in the investigation.
According to Capt. Bill Kennedy, two unidentified males were involved in the first burglary and four unidentified males were involved in the second.
“They crawled through the same window they crawled through before,” Kennedy said.
Guns appeared to be the burglars’ primary target with six handguns stolen during the first burglary and 11 long-barrel guns stolen in the most recent burglary.
Mann said he has owned the store for five years and never had any significant disturbances other than a few vandalisms and break-in attempts.
“I’ve talked with the ATF and they have a few leads,” Mann said. “I’m confident we’ll see some results within the next couple weeks. Hopefully, we can get some of this trouble off the street.”
Kennedy announced the department offers an undisclosed cash reward for any information leading to the retrieval of the firearms or the arrest and conviction of the individuals involved.
“We want the guns off the street so some little kid doesn’t find one and accidentally shoot his parents or some other little kid thinking it’s a toy,” Kennedy said. “On some burglaries, we’ve found the guns lying in a ditch because the burglars get scared and throw them away.”
