Food giveaway in Lincoln planned for Thursday

LINCOLN — The Food Bank of Central Alabama in Birmingham and the Lincoln Food Pantry Inc. are giving away thousands of pounds of food to families in need Thursday.

Lincoln Food Pantry President Marie Moore said the food giveaway would be held from 10 a.m. until noon at the old Lincoln High School gym.

“The Food Bank of Central Alabama normally does one giveaway per county, but since Sylacauga is in the south end and we are in the north end they agreed to do another giveaway,” Moore said.

She said participants would be asked to register, and should arrive slightly before the start time. They should also bring a box or bags/sacks to take the food home.

“We have between 5,000-7,000 pounds of food to give away, which should be about 50 pounds of food per family, depending on how many families show up,” she said.

Moore said proof of need is not required, and anyone in need of emergency food assistance in Talladega County is eligible, as well as those who receive SNAP, TANF, SSI or meet certain income guidelines.
