CHILDERSBURG — The Gerald Wallace Foundation is sponsoring a “fireworks extravaganza” July 4 beginning at 8 p.m. at the Gerald Wallace Park in the Pleasant Valley subdivision.

Wallace’s uncle Frank Wilson said the Foundation has sponsored the display for the past five years.

Jessica Duffaut, Foundation Relationship Manager for The Giving Back Fund wrote in a press release, “The Gerald Wallace Foundation was established in 2008 to provide life-changing opportunities for underserved children and their families with a special emphasis on recreational activities in Childersburg, Alabama, Gerald's hometown, and Gerald's NBA playing city.”

Duffaut adds, “Gerald's goal for the fireworks is to bring together the city of Childersburg during the July 4th holiday. Rather than resident's having to go elsewhere to celebrate, the idea is that they can come out of their homes and enjoy a local celebration together.’

During the Childersburg Council meeting Tuesday, Councilwoman Bonnie Carter, also Wallace’s aunt, invited everyone to attend and said they might could view the display better if they were parked across from the subdivision on U.S. 280.

She said because the event is well attended and the Pleasant Valley subdivision is very congested during the event.
