Taste of Lincoln to benefit City Center
by Elsie Hodnett
The fifth annual Taste of Lincoln is next week, offering a variety of delectable dishes from local caterers and restaurants.

“We have a good variety of businesses participating this year, and still have room for more vendors,” Parks and Recreation Department director Roben Duncan said.

The event is 5-7:30 p.m. Monday, June 10, at the Lincoln City Center (old Lincoln High School gymnasium).

Tickets are $10 per adult and $5 for children 12 and under.

Guests can purchase tickets in advance at City Hall, the Parks and Recreation Office and the City Center. Tickets may also be purchased at the door the day of the event.

Duncan said participating vendors include the Parks and Recreation Department, Fire Department, Buffalo Rock Company (Pepsi), McDonald’s, Sarrell Dental, USAgencies, First National Bank of Talladega Lincoln Branch, Enchanted Cottage, Teen Challenge, Burger King, The Shack, KFC/Taco Bell, Café Royale, Rana’s, Lincoln Public Library, 1st Class Pizza, Rick’s Crossroads Grille, Pizza Hut, Regions Bank Lincoln Branch, Cater 2 U and Blendz Smoothie.

There is no vendor fee to participate. Vendors may decorate the 8 by 8 foot booth space with signs, banners, menus, business cards, etc, along with providing one to three food samples with small disposable plates or containers to serve guests. Food is prepared offsite, and electricity is available for small warming devices, if needed. The City Center is open to vendors at 11 a.m. for setup. Completion time is 4:30 p.m. Door prizes are given away during the event, and vendors are encouraged to donate a meal for the drawing.

“We will contact the vendors with the number of ticket sales starting one week before the Taste of Lincoln,” Duncan said. “That way they can gauge how many samples to bring. At this time, we are expecting 300-plus guests due to the success of last year’s event.”

The vendor deadline is Friday. Commitment forms should be returned to Lincoln Parks and Recreation, Roben Duncan, P.O. Box 172, Lincoln, 35096, or email lprd@centurytel.net or fax 205-763-1562.

Duncan said the Taste of Lincoln is a fundraiser to continue renovations at the Lincoln City Center.

“The Taste of Lincoln is a great opportunity for our local businesses and attendees,” she said. “It offers our businesses the chance to showcase what they have to offer, and attendees a sample from each booth to try new dishes.”
