“At approximately noon today, searchers located the body of Nicholas Bower in the creek at the Jackson Shoals area downstream from the old dam,” Kilgore said in a press release. “This area is a short distance east of the bridge on Jackson Trace Road. Bower was spotted by searchers in a helicopter conducting an aerial search along the creek. The body had been concealed by tall grass in the middle of the creek where he was spotted today (Tuesday). Sheriff’s investigators and searchers were guided to the location and recovered the body.”
Kilgore went on to say that “Bower’s remains were turned over to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsy per order of the Talladega County District Attorney’s Office. No foul play is suspected at this time, and verification of the cause of death is pending. I would like to thank at this time the countless men and women from the many agencies and entities that assisted in the long search effort, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Mr. Bower.”
Bower was a native of Indianapolis and relocated to Georgia after being promoted by his employer, Fastenal. His girlfriend said at a press conference last week that they did not get their tent put up before the rains started race weekend, and planned to sleep in their truck. She last saw him sitting in a lawn chair between 11 and 11:30 p.m. Saturday. She woke up at about 12:30 a.m. and realized he had not come to bed. She began looking for him then, with no success. Law enforcement and volunteer searchers got involved Monday morning after race weekend.
