White sets record in 400 meter dash

The Lincoln Lady Golden Bears are currently in second place after day one of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class state track meet at Gulf Shores on Friday.

Shelbi White had a record setting performance in the Class 4A 400-meter dash. The junior sprinter won the state title with a record setting time of 56.55. White held the previous record with a time of 56.97. White finished first in the preliminary rounds in the 100 and 200-meter dash. White finished first in both events.

“She just ran her race,” Lincoln head coach Skylar Mansfield said. “ I thought she ran better than what she was clocked at. She was running pretty good. In the prelims of the 100 and 200 she got first, so that makes for an interesting 100 and 200 tomorrow.

Kierra Groce finished second in the 400 with a time of 59.59. Groce finished second in Class 4A high jump with a jump of 5 feet-4 inches.

She also finished third in the preliminary round in the 200-meter dash.

“Kierra Groce had an impressive day,” Mansfield said.” When she left the softball game last night, she came to the track meet. She got here around 4:30 in the morning. She finished second the high jump and the 400 meter dash.”

Lincoln’s Alliyah Gover finished fourth in the discus.

Childersburg’s Courtney Reynolds finished third in the Class 4A triple jump with a jump of 43-07.

On the boys side, Munford’s Kyle Franklin won the Class 4A state title in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.18. Munford boys finished second in the preliminary round of the 4x100 relay.

Sylacauga’s Devin O’Neal finished third in Class 5A in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.25. He also finished third in the preliminary round of the 100 and 200-meter dash.
