PELL CITY — A school bus driver was arrested Monday for allegedly having sex with a male student under the age of 19.

St. Clair County District Attorney Richard Minor said Aleah Love, 29, of Riverside is charged with one count of a sex act with a student under the age of 19, because she is a school employee.

“She was arrested after an investigation by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, and her bond is set at $100,000 at this time,” he said.

Minor said at the time of the act charged in the complaint, the defendant was employed as a bus driver for the Pell City Board of Education.

“At no time did the act occur on school grounds nor on a school bus,” he said. “I would like to thank the Pell City Board of Education for their cooperation in this matter.”

Dr. Michael Barber, assistant superintendent for the Pell City School System, said the bus driver was placed on administrative leave Friday afternoon.

He said law enforcement officials advised the school district that the bus driver was under investigation for alleged misconduct with a minor, and that the misconduct under investigation occurred off campus, while the driver was off duty.

“The allegations which are being investigated are serious,” Barber said. “Consequently, the driver has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.”

Barber said the bus driver was employed by the School System for more than six years.

Minor said a school employee engaging in a sex act with a student under the age of 19 is a Class B felony and if convicted is punishable by 2-20 years in prison.
