ASHVILLE – A 48-year-old man was stabbed to death, after an altercation between two men Friday night.

St. Clair County Deputy Coroner Jeremiah Gilreath identified the victim as George “Edward” Mostella of Ashville.

Gilreath said Mostella was pronounced dead after the victim was transported by ambulance to St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital in Pell City.

According to Gilreath, the victim was stabbed twice in the chest and once in the pelvis area.

He said authorities have a suspect in custody.

Gilreath said the stabbing occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Friday at a residence on Danny’s Drive in Ashville.

Ashville Police Chief Dennis Matthews said Ashville police took Austin Turner, 47, of Ashville into custody shortly after the stabbing. Turner was charged with murder in connection with Mostella’s death.

Matthews said Turner remains in police custody.

Turner is expected to make his initial court appearance Monday before St. Clair County District Court Judge Alan Furr. The judge is expected to set a bond for Turner’s release.
