MAPS hosting Fly-In Saturday

PELL CITY – Military Assistance Personal Support is hosting a Fly-In at the St. Clair County Airport March 16 to honor all aviator veterans.

“We want to honor any veteran that had any dealings with aviation during their service time, whether it was the Alabama Air National Guard, or any other state national guard, or any active duty air units,” said Otto Fox, president of MAPS. “Whether you worked on the planes, flew the planes or jumped out of the planes—we want to honor you.”

The Fly-In is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. March 16 at the St. Clair County Airport in Pell City. It is free to attend. Attendees should park at the Pell City Civic Center, and there is a shuttle service available to the airport.

“We will have a wide variety of aircraft on display, including helicopters, and plane rides are available for purchase, weather permitting,” he said.

Fox said there is food available for purchase, including hamburgers, hotdogs, French fries and more. MAPS will provide water free of charge. There are also inflatables free of charge for the children, to make it a family event.

“The Leverton Band will perform a full concert from 3-5 p.m.,” he said. “There are T-shirts available for sale as well.”

Fox said there is still time to help sponsor the event. Sponsorship deadline is Thursday at 5 p.m.

“All you have to do is go to Metro Bank and tell them you wish to make a sponsorship donation to MAPS for this event,” he said. “There are no minimum requirements for sponsorship.”

Fox said Metro Bank is the main event sponsor, however all sponsorship donations are welcome, no matter the amount.

“All sponsors will have their name printed in the program and also on the back of the T-shirts for sale at the event,” he said.

Fox said Lakeside Hospice is bringing a giant card for people to sign in appreciation of the aviation veterans. The card will be available for signing for the entire event.

“Local photographer Wally Bromberg will take a picture at noon,” he said. “We want all aviator veterans who can make it at that time to be included in the picture. The picture will be reduced in size and mailed to all serving aviators in every branch of the U.S. military free of charge to show our appreciation and love for our aviation veterans.”

Fox said St. Clair County wants to show its love of all our aviators serving in our military.

“We hope to make this the first of many annual events to show our appreciation,” he said. “We plan to branch out as well, and show appreciation to different components of our military, such as one honoring women in the military and others as we are able.”
