“My niece Lauren Isbell came to me and said she wanted to do something for cancer patients,” said Teresa Carden, mission coordinator for Lakeside Hospice Inc.
Carden said her mother, Faye Bivens, who is Isbell’s grandmother, is a two-time cancer survivor.
“Several people close to Lauren have been affected by cancer and it touched her,” Carden said.
Carden said Isbell works as a cosmetologist at Primp and Paint in Pell City.
“Together we decided to do something for cancer patients for Valentine’s Day,” she said. “We came up with an idea to take away the worry about getting ready for a special Valentine’s Day outing,” she said.
Carden said Styles Make Smiles for Sweethearts is from 1-4 p.m. Feb. 14 at Primp and Paint, located at 2300 Cogswell Ave.
“Everything is free,” she said. “It is open to both women and men. All they have to do is be actively in cancer treatment or no more than one year out of treatment.”
Carden said attendees must also make an appointment.
“We need them to make appointments to keep someone who is not feeling well from having to sit and wait for a long time,” she said.
Carden said Mary Kay consultant Karen Sullivan is also participating in Styles Make Smiles for Sweethearts and is excited about giving back to the community.
“All they need to do is show up for their appointment and we will treat them to a makeover, including wigs, hats, toboggans, scarves and more,” Carden said. “And if they are a veteran, tell us when you register for an extra special gift. If transportation is needed, call me at 205-884-1111 and we will do our best to accommodate that.”
Carden said a couple of people have already signed up.
“This is a way for all of us to give back to our community,” she said. “We enjoy doing this to help the cancer patients feel better about themselves and help make Valentine’s Day extra special.”
