Anniston police are investigating a burglary reported Wednesday of Civil War memorabilia stolen from a home on the 1200 block of Chatwood Drive.

Sgt. Josh Doggrell said the 57-year-old female homeowner returned to her home Tuesday afternoon after being gone for four hours and discovered someone had forced entry through a door. The victim noticed various coins, a .22 caliber pistol, 20 silver dollars, 10 Confederate general watches, two Civil War knives and one Confederate $50 bill were stolen. The items total nearly $4,000 in value, although the Confederate $50 bill was noted as holding no monetary value on the police report.

Doggrell said the victim named no suspects at the time of the report.

The department's forensics lab was preparing to process the scene Thursday morning, Doggrell said.
