TALLADEGA —Police, firefighters and North Star paramedics responded to two multi-vehicle accidents at the intersection of the 275 Bypass and Renfroe Road Monday. A total of three people suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to Police Capt. Leon Thomas.

The first wreck, which happened at 7:21 a.m., involved three vehicles. The first vehicle, a 1979 Chevrolet Bonanza, was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of McMillan Street and the bypass and was about to cross onto Renfroe Road. The second vehicle, a 1999 Ford Escort, was southbound on the bypass.

The Escort struck the Bonanza, knocking it onto the shoulder. The Escort then struck a 2001 Mazda MPV on the Renfroe Road side of the intersection.

The driver of the Escort, Brandy Howard of Talladega, was transported to the emergency room at Citizens Baptist Medical Center by private vehicle.

The second accident was at 4:15 p.m., and involved a 2004 Chevrolet Impala and a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup truck. The Impala was one car away from the stop sign on Renfroe Road, waiting to cross the bypass. The car in front turned onto the bypass. The driver apparently did not see the Ram when she crossed, and the two vehicles collided.

The driver of the Impala, Lakesha Calhoun, had to be cut out of her vehicle, Thomas said. She and Barry Brown, driver of the Ram, were both transported to the emergency room at Citizens by North Star paramedics.

No information on the conditions of the injured parties was available Tuesday afternoon.
