Alabama legislators go home to review storm damage
MONTGOMERY AP) — The Alabama Legislature has postponed consideration of the state education budget and other bills to allow members to return home to tornado-ravaged parts of the state.<br /><br />The Senate had planned to discuss the education budget Thursday, and the House had scheduled a long list of bills. But both chambers postponed that until Tuesday.<br /><br />House Speaker Mike Hubbard said many legislators needed to help their constituents and that takes priority.<br /><br />The Senate did pass a bill to give school systems more flexibility in making up days lost due to bad weather. The sponsor, Sen. Arthur Orr, said the bill will allow school systems to extend the school day to make up time lost due to bad weather. Orr says the bill will help tornado-damaged schools. His bill goes to the House.<br /><br />
