One of two Pell City women injured in a two-vehicle accident in Lincoln Monday remained in serious condition at University Hospital in Birmingham Tuesday.

Lincoln police Investigator Matt Hill said the accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 78 and Honda Drive when an 18-wheeler traveling east on U.S. 78 turning north on Honda Drive was struck by a Ford Explorer traveling west on U.S. 78.

Hill said the driver of the Ford Explorer, Kaitlyn Chavez, 24, was transported by LifeSaver helicopter to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A family member said Chavez was treated and released from the hospital Monday night and identified the passenger, who was also treated at the hospital, as Shirley Ramsey Shirley.

The family member said Shirley suffered internal injuries in the wreck and was in serious condition Tuesday.

“It’s a miracle the 6-year-old and 1-week-old children in the back were uninjured,” the family member said.

Hill said the driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. He said the investigation is complete.
