Representatives from Talladega College recently announced a new addition to the institutional hierarchy who will fill a position that has been vacant since December 2011.

Tysus Jackson, formerly the Director of Development of the Child Health Advocacy Institute in the Children’s Hospital Foundation of the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., fills the role of Vice President of Institutional Advancement previously held by Cassandra Blassingame.

As Director of Development, Jackson led fundraising initiatives and established positive relationships for the institute and its contributors.

During her five-year tenure, she raised close to $1 million every year for the Children’s Hospital Foundation while leading a team of campaign leadership committee members and junior professional staff members.

Jackson also worked as Director of Development for the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., and as Director of Development for Multicultural Affairs at Virginia Tech.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Sociology from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind. Jackson also received a master’s degree in Non-Profit Management and Philanthropy from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University Bloomington.

Jackson’s active presence has also been felt as part of activities with the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, including her time as a CASE Jupiter Fellow at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind., where she worked on projects geared toward increasing the engagement of black alumni.

She also published research in “International Journal of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Marketing” and obtained national development certification.

Her role with the college will officially begin in July.

“We are privileged to have Jackson on board with this administration,” Talladega College President Dr. Billy C. Hawkins said. “She is a progressive thinker with a proven track record of fundraising, plus expertise in corporate relations and development. Jackson will be the fitting piece in helping us move forward with new initiatives and expansion for Talladega College.”
