Guns stolen in series of home burglaries

Talladega County Sheriff’s Deputies are asking for help identifying suspects in a series of home burglaries in Munford. Three of the burglaries were on Watts Road, and the fourth was on Campbell Road.

According to Capt. Bill Kennedy, guns were stolen at all but one of the four locations.

The first break-in was on the 400 block of Campbell Road on Jan. 21, between 7:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Stolen items include a single shot .243 caliber rifle valued at $320; a Rossi single shot shotgun with interchangeable barrels valued at $275; a bolt action Remington 700 with scope valued at $1,400 and a Remington 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun valued at $450. Damage to a wooden door and door frame is listed at $150 each.

The next reported break-in was the same day on the 1400 block of Watts Road between 10 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. The list of items stolen here include a Remington .410, a Stephens 20 gauge pump shotgun, a Dell laptop and a desktop computer tower. The door frame was damaged. The value of the items was unknown.

The next incident was on the 2550 block of Watts Road, between 4:30 p.m. Jan. 20 and 10:40 a.m. Jan. 25. The only item reported stolen here was a Skil saw, valued at $75. Damage to the front door is estimated at $300.

The most recent incident was on the 100 block of Watts Road between 6 p.m. Jan. 29 and 2:30 p.m. Jan. 30.

The items stolen at this residence include a German 1911 9 mm handgun valued at $800; a German .32 caliber handgun valued at $700; a hunting knife valued at $150 and a Dale Earnhardt Sr. standup valued at $500. Damage to the exterior door was listed at $300.

Kennedy said Investigator Geno Sharp had been assigned to the cases.

“We know somebody must have seen something,” Kennedy said.
