SAFE Family Services Center in Sylacauga was joined by representatives from the Children’s Trust Fund of Alabama and Talladega County DHR for a child abuse prevention rally on the City Hall lawn Tuesday morning.

Reaching the World Bible Church Pastor Henry Looney delivered an invocation, and Mayor Doug Murphree read a proclamation declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

DHR Director Nicole Parker shared motivational words before the crowd released blue balloons in honor of children who have been abused. Of 498 investigated child abuse reports in Talladega County last year, Parker said 197 children are known for certain to have suffered abuse.

Pictured are children from True Light Community Daycare Center as they prepare to release their balloons.

Also pictured, Children’s Trust Fund field director Mike Roberts helps children from True Light blow on blue pinwheels, which are used as a symbol of childhood freedom during awareness month.
