CHILDERSBURG – Celebrate the birth of Jesus this holiday season at DeSoto Caverns Family Fun Park. Now through January 1 2012, a Christmas sound, light and water show will tell the story of the birth of Jesus Christ at the park.

“The show takes place through every cave tour,” said Caprece Clinton, marketing manager for the park.

Clinton said visiting the park during the holiday season is a prime opportunity for families to spend time together. DeSoto Caverns Family Fun Park is listed on Oprah.com as a ‘Wacky Family Attraction’ to visit. The park hosts approximately 50,000 guests a year and visitors come from all over the country, and even the world.

Clinton said the light show has been a tradition at the caverns for many years. This year, with the light show nearing its 20th anniversary, the show has been revamped with colored LED lights. Clinton said the new lights make this year’s show even more special. She said the Christmas light show is an opportunity for families to spend time together and hear the true meaning of Christmas.

At times, the park employs as many as 30 individuals. Each cave tour guide is specifically trained for the Christmas light show.

“The reason I think people should bring their families out is because it’s the time of year when families can actually spend time together,” Clinton said. “You don’t find many settings to take your family to like this. It’s a special time of the year.”

DeSoto Caverns Family Fun Park is one of the few places in the country that offers guests both attractions and a cave tour. Although the cave is a major draw, more attractions are added to the park each year. VIP options are available to locals to receive monthly emails and special offers about contests and festivals, along with other news and announcements.

The park and cave are wheel chair accessible. For more information, call 256-378-7252.
