Talladega’s Habitat for Humanity celebrated two landmarks Sunday at a ceremony on Isbell Circle. First, the newest Habitat homeowner, Brandi Smoot, was presented with a Bible and a hammer in the Habitat tradition.

Smoot’s new neighbor across the street, celebrated the final payment of the mortgage on her Habitat built home by ceremonially burning the mortgage document with treasurer Don Huddleston.

According to Habitat Chairwoman Wendy Westerhouse, Valerie Purington then sang “Bless This House.’

City Manager Brian Muenger, Mayor Larry Barton and City Clerk Beth Cheeks all attended the twin ceremonies Sunday afternoon.

Habitat for Humanity has built six homes on Isbell Circle to date.
